Rue De Royale in a breeze

Rue De Royale broke his maiden in authoritative fashion at Apiam Bendigo on Sunday, September 8.

The three-year-old began as if he had been slingshot out of barrier one and was never really challenged for the remainder of the Budget Car and Truck Hire Maiden (1300m).

The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained Rue De Royale ($3) maintained a two to three-length advantage over his rivals right to the finish eventually scoring by 2-1/4 lengths from Athanatos ($4.20) with Plymouth ($2.60 fav), 1-3/4 lengths away third.

Jockey John Allen bounced the colt away brilliantly and then rated his mount perfectly for a dominant win.

It took nine runs for Rue De Royale to score his initial win, but he has shown plenty of talent including a second in the Group 2 VRC Sires (1400m) at Flemington in March.

Trainer Calvin McEvoy said Rue De Royale had a strong ownership group.

“There was a big group of owners here at Bendigo today, which was fantastic,” McEvoy said.

“He began cleanly out of the gates.

“He has been a little bit slow at some starts and has been getting back by default.

“Johnny (Allen) took the bull by the horns and made a good thing of it.

“Rue De Royale had to do it all himself today, and it is quite windy.

“I know it was a maiden, but he won it like a nice horse and there were a few horses with big opinions.

“I’m very happy for the connections, they have been very patient, and we can go back to a higher level now.”

McEvoy said he believed the race had been a high-quality maiden.

“With the spring carnival approaching quickly there are going to be good horses popping up everywhere.

“I am really pleased for the owners and the team at home who turned him out in such good order.”

Winning jockey John Allen said he had been impressed by Rue De Royale’s win.

“When he began as quick as he did I was happy to let him roll,” Allen said.

“He was in a good rhythm from the word go.

“He was always going to be hard to catch.”

Rue De Royale may not be set for the Group 2 $300,000 Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Friday, September 27.
