Impressive debut with bonuses

The decision by trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy to head to Bendigo for the race debut of Leave No Doubt returned an excellent pay day.

The colt picked up around $60,000 in VOBIS bonuses with his victory in the Vatmen Group Two-Year-Old Maiden (1000m).

Leave No Doubt ($5) won by a neck from Hello Romeo ($8.50) with Queens Of Vino ($3.60), three quarters of a length away third.

The colt jumped nicely and settled behind a group of three which had vied for the front.

Jockey Jarrod Fry was happy to sit behind the leaders then took a run between them in the home straight and the colt proved too strong.

Trainer Tony McEvoy was full of praise for Leave No Doubt’s win.

“It was a very good performance,” McEvoy said.

“He didn’t quite show the gate speed we had expected.

“But Jarrod (Fry) got him into a beautiful rhythm and had a lovely run along.

“The leaders were wobbling around a little bit, a gap came, and he took it.

“He did look to be a little bit intimidated in the straight by another horse laying on him.

“To his credit he showed a bit of true grit and darted through to win.

“A great debut to his career.”

Winning jockey Jarrod Fry said Leave No Doubt had excellent manners for a colt having his first start.

“The horse was very professional,” Fry said.

“We got into a beautiful spot.

“In the home straight the runners in front of us were rolling around and a run presented.

“Most young horses wouldn’t take the run that was there, but the colt was very well educated and professional, and he really savaged the line.

“I think there are better things in store for him.”
