Paseeto landed a massive betting plunge in bringing up a race-to-race double for trainer Tony McEvoy at Morphettville Parks on Saturday, October 7.

Backed from as much as $3.80, Paseeto ran a $2.10 favourite in the Schweppes Benchmark 70 Handicap (1300m) and scored by 1-1/4 lengths from stablemate All Eez ($4.40) giving McEvoy the race quinella. Double Jeopardy ($6.50) was 1-1/2 lengths away third.

The victory gave McEvoy a winning double as two-year-old Crockett had won the opening event.

Paseeto, ridden by Jamie Kah, sat on the speed behind the leaders before being brought up to challenge turning for home and sprinted strongly to win well.

All Eez sat back on the fence and ran on nicely for jockey Jason Holder but never looked like catching the winner.

Assistant trainer Calvin McEvoy said the winner was a promising three-year-old which would now head to Melbourne.

“There is a benchmark 70 race at Caulfield for him in a few weeks then hopefully he will be able to run in the Carbine Club Stakes,” McEvoy said.

The Group 3 $200,000 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) will be run at Flemington on Saturday, November 4.

McEvoy said Paseeto had always shown promise but had been inexperienced in his two-year-old days.

“He started to put it together towards the end of his campaign and was a very good third at Mornington before a break.

“He’s come back in great order and trialled beautifully for today’s return.”
